They say (not sure who 'they' are!) that babies really start to settle down at about 6 weeks. With Jalen I hung out for that 6 week mark - until he was 6 months old, when he finally did settle down!! With Noah I am still waiting :) Harri wasn't too bad as a baby - I can't really remember much about Harri as baby except that he got a lot of wind and slept through from 3 weeks old (we were very busy with Noah when Harri was born).
Kobe has been quite unsettled the last couple of weeks - especially at night. He vomits a lot and it seems to be worse at night as he would vomit, swallow and gulp it back down and crying out in pain. Often when he is screaming you can hear it coming up and him gulping it back down, continuously. Jalen had really bad reflux as a baby, so I knew that Kobe had reflux and was getting pain from it. We tried all the reflux tricks - putting his cot on an angle, thickening his feeds, feeding him as upright as possible and leaving him upright after feeds, and although it helped him to keep it down more he was still bringing it up, gulping it back down and screaming in pain.
I went to the Dr last week to talk to him about it and he agreed to let him try an antacid medication for 3 days to see if that helped. Boy did it help! The first night we gave it he was a new boy!!! So much more happy and settled and not screaming all night in pain. Now when he cries it is more of a 'normal' baby cry - like he is hungry or tired etc, not that awful high pitched scream when something isn't right. He is even happy to sit on our knee for periods of time and just sit - without screaming constantly. Lucky for me as I am always texting away, and that gets tricky when you are trying to rock a screaming baby! :)
He was 6 weeks old yesterday and things really are settling down - not to say that he isn't a normal baby where he has his episodes of crying, but now it is a lot more manageable. He now spends more time 'playing' with his toys. His favourites are the Pooh Bear hanging toys which he will just sit and stare at and smile and talk to for ages. It's so cute to watch.
KJ looks like he has a really round head now, since the last time I saw him, which wasn't that long ago. haha.
ReplyDeleteGlad he is settling for you and you guys are all getting better and will be able to get into a good routine.
Might see you soon depending on things.
Chrish - Kobe has changed heaps since you left. He looks heaps more like Harri now with the big round head, brown eyes and hair getting lighter. Before he was more like Noah.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear the antacid worked for Kobe's reflux. Hard to believe he is 6 weeks already.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear he is settling down
ReplyDeletePoor little man. Glab the medication has helped, and yes he does look a lot like Harri now. Love Mum xxx
ReplyDeleteYay the six week mark. Now the next marker is the 3 mth mark. Luckily you have had all that experience with reflux before, although at the time I bet it was horrible. Nice it came in handy now to know what it was and get on top of it quick.
ReplyDeleteRowan has just settled down now... long past the 6 week mark! I love it how you start to see their personalities and they are alwasys doing different things... they are still draining though!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear Kobe is improving. I've never heard of antacid but it sounds great! Hope things keep getting better for you all.
ReplyDeleteIt can be so hard when they are so little and in pain.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to the vomiting, gulping and swollowing it again, it's horrible, George did that for such a long time... wish we had, had some antacid, sounds very good!
What a darling baby! How are Noah & your other boys?
ReplyDeleteYour family is precious. Noah does sound very similar to my Eli. I am glad to see that a bigger family is possible. Sometimes I struggle with that. At times Eli is so easy but other times he takes so much. Especially emotionally. Thanks for the feedback on my email.
