It was an amazing experience to be a part of the Barnados Mother of the Year awards and I was very lucky to be able to spend the weekend with the other state finalists, who were all incredible women. The highlight of my weekend was hearing their stories. We were able to learn more about Barnados and the amazing work that they do to help children who are abused and neglected, and were also very spoilt - meeting celebrity ambassadors, choosing dresses for the announcement, cocktail parties, special luncheons and TV interviews.
The national award was presented at Kirribilli House on Mother's Day by the Prime Minister Tony Abbott, and was awarded to Leanne Robson from Queensland, who was so deserving of it.
