Family Portraits

A couple of years ago I came across some photos on Facebook taken by Alana Aston Photography. I fell in love with her photos straight away. I loved the colours, the brightness and the clarity and wished that the photos I took were similar to hers.

Since then I have oohed and aahed over her photography and followed her work.  Recently my friend Makayla went to Melbourne and had a one on one tutorial with her.  They got talking about how Makayla got into photography and she said something about how she would take photos with her friend Lisa (me).  Alana supposedly asked her it it was Lisa 'King' as she had read my blog and had heard about what had happened to Noah and Aaron (it's such a small world!).

She then asked Makayla what she could do to help and Makayla told her that I LOVE her work and Alana said she wished she could take family photos for us, but knew it would be impossible since we live so far apart.  Next thing I know I got a lovely message from Alana saying that she heard we were coming up to the Gold Coast and she offered to take some family photos for us while we were there if we wanted.

It was like a dream come true to have her offer such a beautiful thing. She suggested some different locations, but I knew straight away that I wanted to do it on the beach at The Spit, and wanted to have the buildings of Surfers Paradise in the background, so we could have special photos of our holiday.

It happened to be on the 8 month anniversary since Noah passed away, so we took some balloons along with us to release.

I was so excited to meet Alana and she was just as lovely as I imagined her to be.

She said we were very easy to take photos of, and I think it's because the boys are so used to me taking photos all the time, that they knew they had to just get it over with to make everyone happy :)

I was jumping around like a lunatic trying to get the boys to laugh for some photos.

I am SO happy with all the photos that I have seen so far.  I can't wait for the disc to arrive with all the photos on it. It's just going to be hard to choose which ones to put on canvases for the house.

This is one of my favourites. I loved the dramatic sky and sea.

I especially love this one of the four of us.

While we were walking near the edge of the water a huge wave got us quite wet, so we decided at the end to just run in and have some fun in the water. It was actually very warm and it was heaps of fun to just get wet and have some fun together.

Alana blogged about the shoot on her website here where you can see a lot more photos from the shoot.  Thank you Alana for capturing some special memories for us. It was so great to meet you and a dream come true to have some photos taken by you. It was definitely one of the highlights of our trip.
