Water, Water and More Water

Last night Aaron headed off to Sydney for the weekend with the youth from church. It seems like he's had more trips to the mainland this year than he has in the past 10 years! I knew it was going to be a very long weekend if we stayed home the whole the time, so today we decided to get out for a few hours. Noah's leg is still sore, but he's tolerating sitting up in his wheelchair a lot more which has been good.

We definitely can't complain that we are getting no rain anymore. It seems like all it has done lately is rain. I heard that the Trevallyn Dam would be in full force today which meant that the Gorge would be in flood, so we thought we would go and check it out.

I didn't expect quite so many people to be doing the same thing - there were cars and people everywhere from Kings Bridge, at the Gorge and at Trevallyn Dam. There was a huge traffic line up to get into the Dam and a big wait to get out as well. The boys thought it was very exciting. Kobe couldn't take his eyes off the water.

Jay loved it, but Harri said it was scary.

I promised the boys if they helped me clean the house this morning that I would take them to the Aquatic Centre after we went to see the floods. I've never seen them clean up so fast! Kobe used to freak out every time the bucket would tip, but now he absolutly loves it! He has turned into a real water baby.

He even puts his face in the water and blows bubbles and doesn't mind at all when I go under the water with him (can you tell he's getting more teeth!? aargh!)

He loved playing in the water and would go anywhere that was blowing bubbles and would just sit and play for ages.

It was a fun way to fill in an afternoon.

I felt bad for Noah sitting in the heat for so long, but he didn't seem to mind at all and was so awake and alert and was really noticing all the sounds going on around him.

Hopefully it won't be too long and he will be able to get back in the water again too.

  2. Do you guys have a membership or something?! It's good the boys helped clean up, at what age should I expect my kids to be doing that? I bet Noah's skin is radiating after his detox in the sauna. Hope the next day goes quick for you. The days can be long when you're without your other half to help.

  5. Shayne took the kids to the gorge and dam too - amazing how much water there is! I remember it was like that when we were pregnant with Patrick and Jalen!

  6. Nicki - no we don't have a membership but its cheap enough and so close to home that it's a great place to hang out. It actually cost us a whopping $5.50 yesterday for the 5 of us - I was free because I was with Noah and he has a companion card, Noah wasn't charged as he can't swim because of his leg, Kobe was free, Jalen cost the most at $4 and Harri was $1.50! Bargain!! Two hours of fun for $5.50 - can't get any better than that!

As for the cleaning up - Jalen is great, Harri not so great. He will do it but it takes a very looooong time and lots of moaning. If he knows that he can't do something (like play the Wii) or go somewhere till its clean he is pretty good - I just have to have an insentive, like no more toys out till everything else is tidy, or no TV till it's clean. Maddi should be able to start understanding at that now - get onto her :)

  7. Was it very crowded for a Sat? I am almost tempted to take the kids on a school day so there's not so many people there... almost but all the teachers in my family (Mum mostly) would kill me.

  8. Simone - we went about 3 pm which was good as it wasn't crowded at all. Mornings and lunch time get very crowded on Saturdays and also school holidays. Definitely go on a Sat late afternoon (its open till 6) or on a weekday, but it wasn't crowded at all.
