Our First 24 Hours Together

Our first 24 hours at home with Kobe have been really nice. Last night Noah was so happy. I think he was happy that everyone was home together again. We put Kobe right next to him and he broke out in a big grin.

Aaron and I cracked up when put Kobe into his cot for the first time. He looked so tiny in this huge big cot! I felt a bit sad about putting him in his own room, but know I will get a lot more sleep when I'm not hearing every single noise he makes. Noah was great last night and only woke up once late in the morning to be turned over which was good.

The night went pretty well, with Kobe waking up twice for a feed and a third time just happy to have a cuddle, and fell back to sleep in my arms. It was nice having both Noah and Kobe in our bed together this morning. Noah just seems so big now! People have been asking if it seems strange to have a tiny baby again, but Aaron and I were both saying it isn't at all as Noah is just like a baby, so Kobe just seems like having a mini Noah. He actually also looks a lot like Noah, when Noah was born. I will have to dig some old photos out to compare them.

Jay told us he was going to get up to give the '3am feed' (if only we could predict what time he really would wake!) and was wondering this morning why we didn't wake him. Maybe after a few nights I really will wake him to help out :) He did end up giving him a feed today and was so excited about it. He kept asking if we could show him how to pick him up properly and then would pick him up, and wanted to feed him. Jay seems to have grown up by 3 years overnight! All day Jalen would hang out for Kobe to wake up and even if he was asleep he would ask 'can I cuddle him now, Mum?'. All day I keep hearing 'I love Kobe'. It is very cute.

Today we had a few visitors (Marlo, Simone, Sara and Merilyn and the Sister missionaries from church) as well as a midwife from the hospital who weighed Kobe and said he has only lost 100gm since his birth which was good (Aaron says I'm slipping in my blogerazzi roll as I didn't even get a photo of him being weighed!). She also watched as I gave myself an injection to make sure I was okay with it. So far so good :) Di came to do a shift of In Home Support and was excited to meet Kobe and enjoyed having a cuddle.

Kobe ended up having two baths - the first in the big bath, and the second in the sink as he made a huge mess everywhere with a very leaky nappy! There was no way we were filling up the big bath again. He actually seemed to enjoy the sink more anyway.

Harri isn't fussed at all about anything. He is just his usual self and asks now and then about something that Kobe is doing, but doesn't seem either jealous or overly excited about having Kobe at home. He did wonder why he was in our bed when he came in our room. I told him that I let him sleep in my bed for a little while this morning and he said 'but he sleeps in his room!. I think he was just curious as to why he has his own bedroom, but wasn't in there.

Aaron has been a great help - helping a lot during the night (including getting his pillow wee'd all over while in the middle of changing a dirty nappy!), doing the housework, cooking tea and is now folding clothes, while I blog away. I feel very lucky (I had to say something nice, since he did say nice things about me after giving birth!). He was asleep cuddling Noah a minute ago, and Jay and I tried to grab the camera to take a photo, but missed the opportunity! I really am slipping.

It looks like Kobe is going to be a big spewer. We have probably gone through 10 grow suits since last night and numerous bunny rugs. Lucky we have a big washing machine and dryer! I have forgotten how much extra washing a tiny little person can create.

We are home

Yes - we really are home! We have had two visitors go up to the hospital tonight to see us, only to realise that we headed home this afternoon. I knew yesterday when they took me to the maternity ward that I wouldn't be getting very much rest while at the hospital, as it is very busy at the moment, and said to Aaron I think I would only like to be in one night and come home. I'm so glad I have, as it is so much more relaxing not listening to 20 babies crying all day, having cleaners come in and out and hearing the baby and the lady in the bed next to us all night.

Kobe decided to give me the 'baptism by fire' (as Simone called it), by having a very unsettled night last night. We were up from 11pm till 4am - feeding, crying, pooing, spewing, feeding some more, crying some more, pooing some more and then feeding again! It was a long night and he finally decided to settle at 4am in my arms. I dared not move and let him sleep in my arms, thinking how I am already letting him get into bad habits! I was just keen for a couple of hours sleep - especially since I had been awake since 12.30 am the night before with contractions.

We got Kobe's baby check done early in the morning and everything is looking good. I also had to learn how to inject myself, as I have to have an injection every day for 6 weeks to hopefully not get any blood clots. I have a gene that they say can cause blood clots, but I wouldn't even know that I have it, except that it was picked up in a study that Noah and I took part in with the Royal Children's Hospital. The Drs are just being cautious, and it seems easy enough, but I'm not looking forward to having to do it everyday.

We have felt very loved and spoiled by the emails, comments, texts, phone calls, flowers, gifts, cards and visits from everyone. It is nice that everyone is so happy and excited for us.

I really still can't believe that I have a baby, and that he arrived so quickly compared to my other labours and deliveries! Aaron and I really thought we would be in the labour ward all day. It was very painful and intense, but the best labour I have experienced.

When he came out I remember saying 'that was SO quick!'. It was a lovely experience and Aaron and I got to spend a lot of time together with Kobe in a double bed that I delivered on (it was so busy we got the extra special delivery room!). They didn't even weigh him until we got to spend an hour or more with him. It was nice to have the boys in the room with us for a little while too, before we had to go to maternity ward.

I have told Aaron he needs to start up his own blog since everyone seemed to enjoy his post so much! :) It is nice to hear his version of it, which was very different to what I was experiencing! The midwife (Pam) said to me that she didn't think Kobe was going to be as big as my other boys by the look of my tummy. I was very happy to hear that, and when he was delivered she and also the Dr both said they did think he looked over 4 kg which meant he was close to being as big as the boys. He tipped the scales at exactly 9 lb (4080 gm), which surprised them all as they thought he was tucked away very neatly in what I thought was a HUGE tummy, but they disagreed. So even though he was big, he was the smallest of my four boys (still can't believe I have FOUR boys!!!)

I do remember saying 'just pull him out!', once I had pushed his head out and everyone laughing saying that I was doing it on my own. I didn't care - I just wanted them to rip him out so it could be over! :) When Kobe was out, I also remember Aaron saying 'he is a boy!', as in the back of our minds we were wondering whether they may have made a mistake.

Looks like Holly and Marnie won some chocolates, both guessing the right date! My Mum has some psychic thing happening and guessed the name somehow too, so she thinks she also deserves a prize. Holly and Marnie - if you could email me with your addresses that would be great - lisajking (at) hotmail (dot) com.

Kids Ward Playground Opening

Before we came home today, we walked up the hall to the Kids Ward at the hospital. Noah had been invited to the new playground official opening as a special guest. Jalen was also representing their school as they had also raised money for the playground. He was excited to see the name of their school on the official thank you board outside the kids ward.

For years now they have talked about making a playground in the kids ward. It has cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and it finally opened today and is awesome! The boys have always loved it when Noah is in hospital - not that he is sick, but they love being able to play up there. Now that there is an awesome playground they will be hoping that we will be making more visits up there.

Lara Giddings (Minister for Health and Human Services) was there to do all her official duties and came over to talk to the boys about their cool balloons a guy made for them. The funniest thing was that Harri didn't care who she was, or what she was there for and stood there picking his nose!

The funniest thing was that everyone was oohing and aahing over Kobe and saying how small he was and was asking how old he was. When we told them he is one day old they looked at me like I was joking! I would then show them my arm band and they realised that we really had just walked up from the maternity ward. It felt very strange to have the three boys there, plus a little baby!

KOBE JAMES KING Has Arrived!!!!!!!

OK here is the full story, as you may well notice Lisa is unable to perform this task, so it is left up to me!!! (Insert Dr Evil laugh here!)

It was around 12:30am when Lisa woke up and told me that she was having pains and that she couldn't sleep through them. At around 2:45 she decided she had had enough of lying in bed and decided to get up and do the house work!!!

At 6am Lisa had a bath, the contractions were getting more frequent and stronger. We rang the hospital at 7 and were told to come in when we felt we needed. We were joined by Lisa's parents at around 8.

We headed to the hospital at about 8:30 and were put into a lovely big room. The midwife we had was ready for a quick labour, getting everything ready!! We thought she was dreaming!!! Lisa jumped in the shower, not literally jumping in the shower to bring it on, but having a shower to ease the pain. After about 30-40mins, yes there is still a drought, the midwife checked her progress. 8cms dilated but membrane intact.

Lisa then hopped in the bath, yes we used enough water to supply a small drought ridden town, like she had wanted all along.

But 3 contractions in she wanted to start pushing, the midwife checked Kobe's heart rate, and it was down, so she had to get out of the bath and onto the bed. Out of nowhere there were Doctors and nurses everywhere, well 6 to be exact. Kobe wanted out and he wanted out then and there. The main Dr checked Lisa over, not in that way, but her condition. She was fully dilated so he broke her waters. Within three pushes Kobe's head was out, his cord was around his throat, so the Dr removed it and within two more pushes he was out.

For the fourth time all the pain relief Lisa had was gas, she did a wonderful job, proving not only have a strong will, but a strong pain threshold. She is a wonderful, wonderful women who is soo strong and inspiring. But enough of the schalmtz, back to the story!!

We then spent some bonding time with him, I rang Jay and Harri, Noah didn't want to talk to me. Then Lisa's mum got on the phone and I then rang my parents. The were all very excited!!

Kobe thinking, I just arrive and your already on the phone!!!!

I went home after a few hours to pick the boys up so they could meet the newest member of the family. Supposedly Jalen had had some happy tears before I arrived, but he was very pumped to see Kobe, he made him a lovely card. Harri wasn't to fussed, but finally called him Kobe and not Barry!!! When we arrived back, Jay was fascinated with Kobe and had a big cuddle, Harri had a small one and Noah was still a bit crabby (unwell).

Around 30 minutes later we were transfered to the Maternity Ward. Jalen was still all over Kobe, but all Harri wanted was Kobe's Buddy Bear!!! We had visits from Grandma & Grandpa, Aunty Becky, Pip & Oliver, Bec, Tone & Annie and Claire, which was great. We received numerous text messages, phone calls, emails, posts. . . etc. thanks to all!!!

Kobe is ready for Saturday Night's big clash with the Bombers!!

Kobe and mum are doing well, if all is OK Lisa wants to come home tomorrow afternoon!! Kobe is a sucker and knows what to do!!

Trust me when I say "Life's all good!!!!!!!"

PS. any spelling/grammar mistakes, I'm sorry I am a maths teacher! Plus I am the Anti-Blogger, just filling in for the Blogerazzi!!!!!!!

What is up with......

Braxton Hicks contractions!!!? They are so frustrating! I have never had them before, but with this pregnancy I have had them for the last month or two, but the past week I am having them every day - ALL the time! They just don't get any stronger. When I am still I feel them really strong, but if I am busy I would miss them.

Today I went and had a CTG done to make sure the baby is happy and well, so I can hang out a bit longer. Everything is looking really good and the Braxton Hicks even showed up on the trace. The midwife told me that they weren't really long or strong enough to be doing anything which is frustrating! I was hoping she was going to say that I may be 3 cm already :)

So - we continue to wait till Barry is ready to come out! Oh - and Aaron has strict instructions to post on the blog ASAP after he is born, as everyone is hanging out to hear when he finally does arrive. Not sure if it because of the chocolate prize or just that everyone is excited! ;)

Keeping Busy

Everyone is obviously very anxious since I missed a day of posting on my blog! Instead of being in hospital delivering a baby, we have spent the morning at Kids Paradise.

The school holiday program with Family Based Care has started back up again, and my boss couldn't believe that I still hadn't had the baby and was at Kids Paradise with the boys! I told her I was available to work the rest of the week if she wanted ;)

Aaron thought that I should go on the giant inflatables and do some jumping to try to get things moving, but I was more than happy to just chat with the other parents and kids from work, while the boys played.

The boys are excited to go ten pin bowling in the morning, so if I can get through tomorrow morning without going into labour they will be very happy!

"Wots and Wots"

Tonight we sent Harri into the bathroom to do his teeth and go to the toilet before bed. A few minutes later he came out with HEAPS of gel in his hair and proudly announces 'I've got wots and wots!' (lots). He was so proud that he did his own hair, and I couldn't help but laugh and take a photo.

At least it wasn't as bad as the time he put paw paw ointment in his hair - really thick! It took about a week to finally get rid of it as it was so oily and thick.
