Term 2

It's the end of our term 2 school holidays and all holidays I've been planning on catching up on my blog, but painting ceilings (where's Aaron when I need him!?), keeping the boys entertained, resting and watching Netflix ended up taking priority, until now.

Mother's Day was during term 2 and we took Mum out for an early Mother's Day lunch as Jay was heading back to Uni on Mother's Day.  We had a lovely lunch and then went to take some photos (I tell the boys they can't moan about it as it's Mother's Day!).
Term 2 was busy as the boys were in the middle of their basketball season, and Harri's foot had also healed up well which meant he also started playing school football. We had an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon and he actually thinks that he had ligament damage, rather than a stress fracture.  We have to go back in 12 months for a review, and there is talk of possible surgery to avoid more problems as he gets older.   In the meantime he has carbon plates and orthotics in his shoes, to hopefully avoid having the same problem again.  Harri has been so happy to get back into sport, and knows that his mental health is a lot better when he is able to be more active.

He was excited to play in the Bulldogs Cup which is an annual football competition between Kings Meadows High (the school Aaron taught at) and Queechy.  Queechy have never won it, and even though Harri's senior 1st boys team lost, Queechy won it overall for the first time.  It was really special that Harri could be a part of it, as Aaron would always be a coach of one of the Kings Meadows teams, so I had no doubt that Aaron would've been watching it and would be so happy that Haz was playing against his old school.

Both Harri and Kobe took part in a state basketball tournament which took place over a weekend.  Kobe played with his regular basketball team (plus a couple of extras) and Harri played with Launceston Lightening.
It was a busy weekend, especially since some of Kobe's games were out at Deloraine, while Harri was playing in town.  Chrish came down to visit for a week, and arrived the morning of Kobe's first game at Deloraine.  It was nice for him to surprise us and pop in to watch his game.
He also brought his camera and got some great shots.

Kobe had a couple of hours break in between his games at Deloraine, so we had a lovely brunch at the raspberry farm and then went to the park to fill in some time.  It was absolutely freezing, but the rest of his team were also at the park, so they had lot of fun playing together.
Harri's team had some really tough games but ended up winning the grand final against the other Lightening team
Kobe loves playing basketball but isn't a runner at all.  He reads the play well in games and is a great little defender, but he's definitely not fast like Harri.  So he made me laugh when he said he wanted to go in the All Schools Cross Country this year.

He hates running and isn't fast, but kept begging me to let him go.  I knew it was because all his mates were going, and he wasn't keen on being at school without them, but I also thought that it doesn't matter if he's not a fast runner.  If he wanted to give it a go, then I shouldn't stop him, so I signed the papers to his delight and it was great that school took a bus of kids to it.  It was nice to get photos from friends of him running.
He told me he came fourth last and didn't care at all, but actually had a laugh about it. He had a great day anyway and loved seeing his cousins there.
I've had a great term at school and everyday I think how lucky I am to have a job that I love so much. During our last week of school my colleague arranged a multi-cultural food day in some of the Prep classes, and asked if I'd come along to help out, and of course she didn't have to ask twice!

She invited some of the mums of the students to come along and cook for the classes, and it was so delicious! They had Sudanese lentil soup and flatbread, Bhutanese vegetable momos with homemade tomato sauce and Vietnamese rice paper rolls with dipping sauce.  It was such a lovely day and the kids absolutely loved it.  The best thing to me though, is seeing the mums take part and share their culture and talents with us. We were very spoilt that week, as one of the Bhutanese mums then cooked us some chicken momos for lunch another day.

It's actually hard to believe that half the school year is already over.  The winter terms always seem long, but term 2 flew by.  Hopefully the next two terms will go just as fast.
