Our sweetest, smallest flowers

Yesterday I discovered a beautiful blog by a lady who lives in the USA who is also LDS, and had a son named Ben who had hydranencephaly. Last week he passed away at the age of 8. I spent a bit of time yesterday going through her blogs. I loved how she had a blog just for her son, and also for their family in general. I was jealous that she had started her son's blog when he was born. I started my blog three years ago, and wish so much that I had more of Noah's life documented in words and photos.

A couple of weeks ago one of my best friends, Simone lost her beautiful little girl before she even got to take a breath. It's heartbreaking, but also comforting to know that we know where she is and that Simone and Simon will see her again. On this ladies blog yesterday she had a beautiful quote by Russel M Nelson - a leader in our church. It said:

"Parents who have surrendered the sweetest and smallest flowers from the family's garden need to remember our Heavenly Father. He has promised a special reward to those who now suffer in silence, who spend long days and longer nights through their trying times of bereavement. Our Creator has promised glory. He said, "For after much tribulation come the blessings. Wherefore the day cometh that ye shall be crowned with much glory; the hour is not yet, but nigh at hand." (D&C 58:4) That promised glory includes the blessing of reunion with each child who has left the family circle to help surviving members of the family to draw nearer to God. Those children still live and are an heritage to the Lord."

Hearing about another family who lost a child with hydran, reminds me to give Noah lots of extra cuddles and be grateful for every day we have with him. The first year or so all we thought about was losing him, and now we just get so busy with every day life and got past that '2-4 year' mark, we don't really think about it much anymore.

I just hope when that day comes that I will remember all the things I know....that after much tribulation comes the blessings, and that we will see him again one day.

  2. Such a beautifully worded post Lisa. It's such a challenge to have to confront the loss of a child, but to do so on a continual basis is too painful - living each day is a far more pleasant experience and I think you guys do that well, full of caring, love and adventure (even the little adventures) :) And today, as with every other day, is the perfect weather for cuddling :)
