Grandma's Surprise

Today is Mum's 50 something birthday. It's tricky having her birthday so close to little Alex's, so she assumed that our birthday party for Alex was our family get together for the month. I even played along with it a bit and gave her her birthday present on Saturday - just to make her think even more that she wouldn't see us on her birthday.

During the week Nicki and I planned to surprise Mum by all going out there for lunch. It really was a surprise - so much so that Mum assumed nothing was happening all day, so she thought she's go into the library and grab some books! She eventually came home, and Nicki and I were too late hiding the cars behind the shed, so we all ran into her bedroom to hide. She obviously saw our cars, but had no idea where we were and came straight into her bedroom.

We all screamed 'surprise!' at her (the kids thought it was GREAT!) and her face was priceless!!! Check out this funny photo - it captured the moment beautifully - Mum about to have a heart attack, Jay getting so excited yelling 'surprise!', and Becky and Kels in the mirror with a big grin.

Instead of Mum laying back in the sun with a good book and a mango, she ended up entertaining the grandkids on the new trampoline.

It finally feels like Summer has hit Tassie, and it was a beautiful day so we all sat outside under the trees and had lunch, that we all brought along.

The kids love going out there - especially on days like today when they know they can hook the hose up to the slide and go down with their bathers on. Dad ended up finding some plastic to make the slide extra long and the kids had an awesome time - especially my boys!

Mum decided it looked like fun and went down a few times too - clothes and all!

It was a lovely day and so fun to surprise Mum the way we did! Now we're all gone she can sit back with a good book and her mango! :)

  5. What fun to surprise her like that! Only 50? That seems weird b/c my parents are in the 60's and 70's. :) It's nice you can get together so often with your family.
