"I love this grade!"

Jay was so excited today as it was the school swimming carnival. Because he is in grade 3 they now get to do lots of things that they have never done before - like participate in the carnival. Jay ran up to me at the pool and said 'I love this grade!'. He is so excited to be in grade 3 as he really feels like an important part of the school now.

Jay took part in the races in the smaller pool, along with most of the other grade 3's. It was funny watching their 'swimming' as most of them decided that every now and then they would just stand up and run for a bit and then dive back in the water to try to get ahead. Jay did very well though and swam like he meant to.

I was glad that in his first race there were only three kids including him, which meant he was guaranteed a ribbon (1st, 2nd and 3rd place got a ribbon). Jay isn't the strongest swimmer, but watching most of the other grade 3's I realised that he wasn't as weak as I thought he was. He surprised me and even himself, by coming first! He was so excited!

In the backstroke he came third which he was just as excited about. Harri loved watching and hanging out with him all afternoon.

After freestyle and backstroke the kids were then able to take part in the novelty races.

Harri and I got to see him in the kickboard race and then got a phone call to go and pick up Noah from school as he was miserable and wasn't settling. He has been upset for months now and I just wish we could find the right thing to help him settle for more than a few days at a time. He came home and slept for 3 1/2 hours and then woke up and cried for an hour and is now back to sleep. Fingers crossed that tomorrow will be a better day :(
